St Andrew's Church
Servers

Server is a good word because it really tells us what the job is. In fact everyone in the church is a server, we all serve each other. No matter who we are, we should help each other.

The name altar server means that most of the serving happens at or near the altar: we help the priest by holding the missal for him; carrying the water and wine and other actions like that.

Though the altar is a place around which we do most of our serving, there are times when we will leave the altar, e.g., on Palm Sunday we process to our sister church.

Altar servers have a lot of interesting and exciting jobs to do, most of these are ceremonies. they give the mass great solemnity and through them we are all helped to pray.

Jesus, the first of all servers, said "he came not to be served but to serve".

If you would like to considering helping in this way please contact Vince Peacock on a Sunday morning at the 10am service, or by e-mailing vrpeacock@tiscali.co.uk.
